The Mahavishnu Orchestra broke down the walls between jazz and rock, yielding one of the greatest sounds of the late 60s and early 70s. Inner Mounting Flame and Birds of Fire are some of my favorite albums from the guys. Their obvious influence echos in the sound of one of our favorite bands, The Mars Volta and countless other jam bands...let them take you deep into classical masterpieces, odd time riffage, deep funk grooves, mirage-like impromptu melodies that are entirely composed!
