Tuesday night music exchanges usually breed new obsessions, endless jaw dropping moments and foreign sounds courtesy of fellow music geeks.  This weeks gem and auditory mind fuck is delivered to us via Canadian song bird and virtuoso harp player, Maylee Todd. An eccentric figure who flirts with a wide spectrum of artistic mediums who use her clusterfuck of interest to birth a unique music experience. Maylee’s honest relatable lyrics and mastery of pop and soul music have conquered my itunes play list all week and now I share with you, the wonderful Maylee Todd!

Sun Ra (born Herman Poole Blountlegal name Le Sony'r Ra[1]; May 22, 1914 – May 30, 1993) was a prolific jazz composerbandleaderpiano andsynthesizer player, poet and philosopher known for his "cosmic philosophy," musical compositions and performances. He was born in Birmingham,Alabama. He is a 1979 inductee of the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame.
"Of all the jazz musicians, Sun Ra was probably the most controversial," critic Scott Yanow said,[2] because of Sun Ra's eclectic music and unorthodox lifestyle. Claiming that he was of the "Angel Race" and not from Earth, but from Saturn, Sun Ra developed a complex persona of "cosmic" philosophies and lyrical poetry that made him a pioneer of afrofuturism as he preached awareness and peace above all. He abandoned his birth name and took on the name and persona of Sun Ra (Ra being the Egyptian God of the Sun), and used several other names throughout his career, including Le Sonra and Sonny Lee.[3]Sun Ra denied any connection with his birth name, saying "That's an imaginary person, never existed … Any name that I use other than Ra is a pseudonym."[4]
From the mid-1950s to his death, Sun Ra led "The Arkestra" (a deliberate re-spelling of "orchestra"), an ensemble with an ever-changing lineup and name (it was also called "The Solar Myth Arkestra", "His Cosmo Discipline Arkestra", the "Blue Universe Arkestra", "The Jet Set Omniverse Arkestra", and many other permutations; Sun Ra asserted that the ever-changing name of his ensemble reflected the ever-changing nature of his music.) His mainstream success was limited, but Sun Ra was a prolific recording artist and frequent live performer, Sun Ra's music ranged from keyboard solos to big bands of over 30 musicians; his music touched on virtually the entire history of jazz, from ragtime to swing music, from bebop to free jazz; he was also a pioneer ofelectronic musicspace music,[5] and free improvisation, and was one of the first musicians, regardless of genre, to make extensive use of electronic keyboards.

Don't mistake kindness for weakness

Rolling through the hood, cold tearing shit up
Stick my head out the window and I say what's up
To the niggaz on the corner cold bumping the box
But you know that's an alibi for slanging the rocks
A dice game started so I said what the fuk
So I put my shit in park and had to try my luck
Hard to roll wit my bitch jocking 24-7
Rolled them muthafukas, ate 'em up, hit 11
Got another point, I made a ten a fo'
Was taking niggaz money and was itching for mo'
Laughing in their faces and said you're all making me rich
Till one punk got jealous, cold slap my bitch
He pulled out his gat, I knew he wouldn't last
So I said to myself, homeboy, you better think fast
He shot (gunshots), Then I shot (gunshots)
As you can see, I cold smoked his ass (ha ha)

Celebrating just more than 20 years since its seminal debut, Do The Right Thing remains one of the most important and controversial films of its era. Employing director Spike Lee’s hometown of Brooklyn as the essential setting, this explosive film masterfully explores race and class relationships. Both a critical and popular success, Do The Right Thing became a landmark film that brought serious issues in the African American community to light and established Lee as a major director in American cinema. Lee also wrote the screenplay, produced, and even starred in this deeply personal film, which was applauded for its commanding visuals provided by Danny Aiello and John Turturro, and an assertive soundtrack featuring Public Enemy’s “Fight the Power.” Including an unprecedented insider’s look at the film, with behind-the-scenes visuals and interviews, this impressive book celebrates the impact of Do The Right Thing on our culture throughout the years. The film is even credited with bringing President Barack Obama and the First Lady together on their first date. Available now through Amazon.

Fashion over Function
Style over Substance
Superficiality takes precedence in most of our life’s decisions. The fact that a sequel to Sex in City even exists is proof that the average human brain is not well equipped to handle actual poignant content and that people are more apt to push aside a Nobel Prize winner if hes blocking your view of a roller skating chimp.
In relationships men will put up with anything for a girl who’s halfway cute. Not just the regular byproducts of the archaic remnants of chivalry like opening doors and pulling out chairs. A man would let a woman repeatedly punch him in the dick if she filled out a dress like one of those new overdeveloped store mannequins that you only see in places where the shopping center lies somewhere between the housing projects and the liquor store. Intelligence and compatibility are non factors in the selection of a mate.
Women are not exempt. If Brad Pitt broke into your house and took a shit on your living room floor, you would place his excrement in a gilded box labeled in the most painstaking caligraphy “Pitts Precious Droppings”. When I come to your crib and poop in your bed, you go and call the cops. The only label i leave with is, “that muhfucka that shit on my new duvet cover”. Difference between me and him? Hes rich and attractive. Substance means nothing in that equation.
Homeboy Sandman’s new song “Yeah, But I Can Rhyme Though” speaks on the modern convention of attributing someone’s marketability in music to their looks rather than their actual skill at their craft. The concept that you have to meet some of the social norms to produce quality.
Yea, he wears sweatpants and has a crazy beard and his hairline starts at the back of his neck, but he can rap his ass off.
The weirdest people are often the most creative. Dressing well or pouting at the camera doesn’t help you put double entendres and layered sounds together on a track. Of course the packaging steers you towards the product, but if you design the package before you thought of its contents all we are left with is a pretty box and disappointment.
